Agricultural Value Addition at Growth Pillar focuses on helping farmers and communities earn more from what they already produce. Instead of selling crops in raw form at low prices, we support the transformation of farm produce into processed, higher-value products that meet market requirements.

Growth Pillar aim to operate community-accessible processing facilities, where farmers, farmer groups, cooperatives, and small enterprises can bring their produce to be processed safely and efficiently. At the same time, we support communities and enterprises to establish and manage their own value-addition facilities, strengthening local ownership, skills, and economic resilience.

Our approach recognises that value addition is not only about machines but also systems, skills, markets, and sustainability.

Many farmers and rural communities face the following challenges:

• selling raw produce at very low prices,
• post-harvest losses due to lack of processing and storage,
• limited access to safe, affordable processing facilities,
• lack of technical knowledge on quality standards and packaging,
• dependence on middlemen who capture most of the value,
• weak linkages between production and markets.

As a result, farmers work hard but remain trapped in low-income cycles.

1. Community-Accessible Processing Facilities

Growth Pillar aims to operate processing facilities where communities can bring their farm produce for processing. Farmers and groups can process produce such as grains, legumes, fruits, or other crops into semi-processed or finished products, depending on the value chain.

This allows communities to earn more without needing to immediately invest in expensive equipment.

These facilities are designed to be:

• safe and hygienic,
• affordable and accessible,
• suitable for smallholder volumes,
• compliant with basic quality and safety standards.

2. Support to Establish Community-Owned Processing Facilities

Beyond operating our own facilities, Growth Pillar actively supports community groups, cooperatives, and small enterprises to set up and manage their own value-addition facilities. The goal is to build locally owned and managed processing enterprises that create jobs and retain value within communities.

Our support includes:

• feasibility assessments and planning,
